Global Signal Scan — October 17, 2026

Reader brief

Newly accessible CDC reporting puts the United States at 4,410 confirmed measles cases through October 15. ECDC relays 9,277 confirmed DRC Ebola cases and 4,478 related deaths using national data through October 14. Both are provisional surveillance records with specific cutoffs. New research and policy leads include Alaska’s pertussis vaccine-effectiveness analysis and WHO’s cooperation agreement with INTERPOL.

This is a selective, dated scan, not a comprehensive worldwide feed, official risk assessment or medical/travel advice. Confidence describes source quality and clarity, not severity. The 11 records below are this package’s working ledger, not a total for the live tracker. Desk keys identify the selective editorial records; existing tracker IDs are preserved. Sources were checked October 17; the data described are often older.

Coverage limits and carry-forward handling

Bangladesh dengue, FDA investigations and respiratory trends are not numerically refreshed here. Existing canonical records should retain their original source dates and remain open unless a primary source supports a status change. Search did not resolve a usable current Bangladesh dengue bulletin. NHC bulletin retrieval remains incomplete despite official indexed entries; no old wind speeds are carried forward. No tracker-wide total, blanket “all clear” or claim of up-to-the-minute coverage is made.

Publication source-check amendment — October 17

CDC and ECDC pages were rechecked for this release. ECDC’s October 16 update also reports Kenya’s second Ebola case, a family contact in quarantine, reported October 14 and receiving treatment. Kenya remains a separate record from DRC. Current storm bulletin retrieval remains incomplete: do not use October 14 wind speeds or warning footprints as current conditions. Bangladesh, FDA and respiratory records retain their own earlier cutoffs.

How this scan was run

Published with Elijah St. John’s approval on October 17. The full selective scan contains 11 working editorial rows; those rows are not the canonical tracker total. Current desk records retain individual verification dates. Full storm bulletin retrieval remains incomplete. Omission does not resolve a prior record.

Linked desk records (with separate evidence dates)

This edition is situational awareness for public-health professionals and the public. It is not medical, clinical, or travel advice. Source-check limits and evidence cutoffs are stated on each current record; the desk adds a record only when a current source supports it, so an absence of new signals never implies an absence of global health risk.
