DRC Bundibugyo Ebola reaches 8,224 confirmed cases in WHO's provisional daily table

WHO's daily table, data as of September 29, lists 347 suspected and 8,224 confirmed Bundibugyo Ebola cases in the DRC, 3,982 confirmed deaths, a 48 percent case fatality ratio, and 2,121 recovered. WHO says daily figures use the prior day's DRC government situation report and are subject to revision. These figures replace the September 30 desk's 7,890 confirmed cases and 3,799 deaths, which used a September 23 cutoff. The change is a newer data point, not a new event. September 30 WHO Africa operational metrics — beds, laboratories, tracing and the financing requirement — are not refreshed by this table and are not restated as current. Case fatality ratios from an ongoing outbreak shift as outcomes are recorded. ECDC reports that a healthcare worker who tested positive on September 29 was medically evacuated from the DRC to the Netherlands, the fourth case from this outbreak imported into Europe, and continues to assess the risk to Europe's general population as very low when appropriate infection-control measures are used. This is a controlled medical evacuation, not evidence of community transmission in Europe, and it does not change the DRC case counts above.
