AI Assistance Policy

How Today in Public Health uses — and does not use — AI tools in editorial work.

Human accountability

AI tools may assist with tasks such as drafting, editing, research triage, and formatting. They never replace reporting, fact-checking, or editorial judgment. Final responsibility for every published piece rests with real human editors.

What AI will not do

We do not let AI invent sources, quotes, data, or citations, and we do not publish AI output as fact without human verification. AI does not create the pen-name personas' 'experiences' — those do not exist. AI is a tool, not an author of record.

Transparency

Where AI materially shapes a piece beyond routine assistance, we intend to be transparent about how. This policy will evolve alongside the technology and our newsroom.
