Scan summary

The October 4 scan holds 22 active signals: 2 added, 0 updated, 20 retained and 0 removed. ECDC's week-40 report added carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales as a rapidly worsening regional resistance signal, and ECDC's monthly synthesis added multi-country cholera, with 46,153 new cases reported from August 26 to September 28. No existing signal changed materially since the October 3 edition. Reviewed but not promoted: a WHO-supported independent review of Bangladesh's immunization programme (October 4–14, no new case count), low U.S. seasonal influenza activity, and four retained locally acquired CCHF cases in Spain with no new case.

How this scan was run

This edition's data cutoff is October 4, 2026, and it was published on TiPH the same day. Counts are measured against the October 3 edition. Measured against the October 2 edition as originally published, the desk has gained four signals (dengue, chikungunya, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales and cholera) and three material updates (West Nile, Ebola, measles). TiPH had no standalone multi-country cholera record, so cholera is counted as an addition rather than an update. The global El Niño watch layer is carried separately and is not included in the active count.

Signals reverified in this edition

This edition is situational awareness for public-health professionals and the public. It is not medical, clinical, or travel advice. Every signal is reverified against its authoritative primary sources; the desk adds a record only when a current source supports it, so an absence of new signals never implies an absence of global health risk.
