Scan summary
The October 2 scan holds 18 active signals: 0 added, 1 materially updated, 17 retained and 0 removed. The update is the existing alfalfa sprouting-seed signal, not a new sprouts record and not the broccoli-sprout Salmonella Bovismorbificans signal. FDA's October 1 outbreak update, detected by TiPH on October 2, links recalled alfalfa seed lot SAL2-24JB to 76 illnesses in 16 states: 64 with STEC, 9 with Salmonella Agona and 3 with both; 6 hospitalizations; 0 deaths; illness onsets May 31 to September 7. Of 50 people interviewed, 40 reported sprouts and 35 specified alfalfa sprouts. The investigation remains ongoing. Illness states and product-distribution states are different lists and are not combined. ECDC published new dengue, chikungunya and West Nile surveillance updates on October 2. Exact revised counts were not exposed by the sources checked, so no European arbovirus count on this desk was changed, and the existing European West Nile signal is retained unchanged. The other October 1 records were reverified and retained without a new material fact.

How this scan was run
This edition compared the latest FDA, CDC, WHO and ECDC pages with the October 1 desk. Event date, authority update date, TiPH detection date and TiPH publication date are stored separately. A record was updated only when an authoritative source supported a material change. The alfalfa sprout signal was updated from FDA's October 1 outbreak page. The broccoli-sprout signal was not rewritten and was not duplicated. ECDC published new dengue, chikungunya and West Nile surveillance updates on October 2. Those updates did not expose exact revised counts to this scan, so no count on the European West Nile signal, or on any other retained record, was changed or refreshed. Seventeen previously published signals were reverified and retained; their TiPH modification dates were not changed. No signal was added or removed. The October 1 and September 30 editions are preserved unchanged.

This edition is situational awareness for public-health professionals and the public. It is not medical, clinical, or travel advice. Every signal is reverified against its authoritative primary sources; the desk adds a record only when a current source supports it, so an absence of new signals never implies an absence of global health risk.
